Hidden corner in downtown LA

After living in LA for over ten years, this city never ceases to surprise me. I was walking along Broadway cross 7th street the other day, and discover this cute little side street - St Vincent Court. The place looks like a page from a cartoony European illustration. I enjoy my first visit at St Vincent Court so much, I go back to again yesterday and bring my friend along. We eat at Tulip Cafe, very delicious and relatively inexpensive food for its high quality. I have a big plate of salmon seafood dish for only 13.99. It comes with a tasty plate of salad on the side too!!

The top piece is drawn at Venice beach ... approximately during the time, when we have the 7.2 earthquake ... we didn't feel the quake. One of my friends learn about the quake from his phone's earthquake app. I didn't know smart phone come with an Earthquake app ... I guess it's not a bad idea to have an earthquake app, if you live in a quake religion. I just install the app in my phone too. And the left sketch is a "Veto" drawing ... from the Descanso Garden day. HE! HE!!

St Vincent Court is delightful! I've lived in Los Angeles for almost 15 years and I just discovered it a couple of months ago. You've captured it wonderfully. Great post!

I've been toying with a job offer in LA, and too scared to leave NYC. LA and I have never been friends. This blog post made me feel like maybe it could be nice. Thanks. Your drawings are always an inspiring push to get out and plein-air it!

Thank you everyone.

Amberbop,
Thank you. LA could be a nice adventure. We got a very tight artist community here, you can go to certain popular artist hang out locations here, and meet many fellow artists in the animation industries here ... in no time, you will meet new friends very easily. They are nice bunch of friendly down-to-earth group, and very warm to new kids in town.

The art/animation industry is big, yet also small ... every other people usually know your works or you are your friends' friends etc.. I often meet people, who I don't know them personally. But I know their work, or they know my friends etc.. and you make friends real fast!! ^_______^

Hope this help.
