"I never see Little Mermaid!!"

Time fly!!! Today is school final!! YEAH!! End of an exciting school year, always rewarding to see how much the students progress over a year. They grow so much.

Anyhow ... I can't believe how fast time fly ... when I showed Little Mermaid in class last week. One of the kids told me, "Oh GREAT!! I never see Little Mermaid!! Always want to see that movie ..." OK ... you know you are GETTING OLD, when a 20 years old tell you, "I was not born, when Little Mermaid came out in the theater!!!" Ahhhhh ... Have time goes by so fast?!

Trying different watercolor approach, the portrait is kind of messy ... still haven't get a hang of the "oil" look with watercolor ... Hummm ... need more practice!!

HAPPY Earth Day!!

More color studies and concept sketches ... I am hoping to make a graphic novel during my up-coming vacation, so have been trying different kind of painting styles. The graphic novel will be a travelogue - since it will be a small book, I don't want to reveal too much about the book. HA! HA!! Otherwise, it wouldn't be fun to read. The trip is only a week, it will cover stories related to the trip. And YES!! This will be the VERY FIRST MINTY COMIC BOOK!! WOO HOO!! Although I have been drawing Minty comic diary often, I never done a comic book before, this will be a challenge, especially it will be done on the run. Right now I am experimenting new technique and styles, which could maintain the fun and loose quality of my normal Minty comic, but with much higher visual quality. I may end up have to do some model sheet for ... Err ... Minty and MYSELF?! Humm ... I will post some study sketches a long the way!! Wish me luck!! Cross my fingers I can pull off this graphic novel travelogue idea ... *Nervous and exciting*

Left over from BAD work day! LOL

2 pages of left over comic from the bad work day!! LOL The rest of the week, since the bad day is actually better. But still fun to post these ... lately I have been working on more MOCAP animation ... on a BAD animation day, when the MOCAP is fighting with the key frames, and when I am tired, hand hurt, eyes hurt ... it feels almost impossible to get everything done on time with the desire result. My work place is very grey and dark, unlike most studios, they decorate their walls with pretty colorful artworks ... my studio is pretty much all GREY ... grey carpet, grey cubical, grey wall, black boring PCs ... it's very easy to make a grumpy day FEEL worst then it is. Anyhow ... I often joke to my friend that I work for the Dark force. LOL

Composition and color study

I take Nathan Fowkes's Composition workshop at LAAFA today. Always love Nathan's watercolor painting style and want to learn from him ... he handles watercolor like oil and have an different texture and richness then the traditional watercolor style. Try his approach today in class ... still not quite use to this new technique ... need to practice more. My color get kind of dark and muddy, I run a test in Photoshop (right set) ... that's the kind of color I want ... anyhow ... it's late. Will write more about next time.
