Story of game boarding ...

People often ask me what's the different between boarding for game cinematic to say film or TV shows? Actually there is no big differences. In game cinematic, occasionally one needs to consider the continuity from game play to cinematic sequences - if the cinematic happens in-between game play, you want to make sure the set up of the first and last shots in the cinematic hook up properly with the game play. Aside from this, the cinematography rules and judgement are pretty much the same.

Artworks is copyrighted by the studios.

Like film and TV, story genres play a strong influent to the artistic direction of its cinematography. For example, a fun cartoony approach works great with Spyro New Beginning (see above); while say a project like God of War II, a live action epic style is more suitable. Once storyboard is done. We go through previz before getting into full production.

The board here lacks the traditional script and note section isn't because art direction notes and script isn't required in game boarding. It's just me ... taking off the script and production note for on-line loading convenience. HE ! HE!!

Nice to see your awesome pro work. Yup... it's very challenging to blend cinematics with game play, but if done right it can really help move the game along smoothly. Your so right on Alina!

Yay storyboards! Love'em!

I have a question. Or two. Maybe three. In order to protect your storyboard (assuming you did it in a digital editor and printed it or simply sketched it out) would you palce it in plastic sleeves, bind with some alligator clips, or whatnot to prevent from any future accidents like smudging? Or do you have a nice large bullentin board you can simply place the paper in each desired section?

THank you all.

All my new boards are presented digitally these days. I don't keep hard copy of them, just make a few DVD back-up. :P If I want to present storyboards to people, I also do it digitally in the computer like a slide show. :P
