East Coast Writer Takes Over West Coast Artist's Blog (Kind of)

Phil Amara here, Alina's writer/collaborator on TREEHOUSE HEROES, our hard-fought, first-ever kid's picture book coming out in late 2012 from Immedium. Just 'round the corner! Wow! Alina might be one of the top three busiest people I personally know, so I'll occasionally be posting here to give her a well-deserved break now and again. Which is fine by me, 'cause it gives me a chance to show you some work -- and sides to Alina herself! -- that you don't normally see.

Some of you might know that I left my career as a comic-book editor years ago to pursuing teaching. Best decision ever (though I still love me some wicked good comics!). As often as possible, I have artist pals, like Alina come in and talk to the class. Alina wowed my 4th graders! She told them all about the storytelling power of art. It not only made my students better artists, but better writers. If you know Alina the way I do, you know that she's a near infinite source of art info well beyond her 9 to 5 world of light sabers. Kind of like a pop star that studied Mozart long before she had to write any top 40 hits.

Next time, I'll give y'all a little behind-the-scenes peek at early sketches and roughs for TREEHOUSE HEROES. Trust me, on this, I've worked with lots of unreal artists as an ex-editor and you're seeing the real thing develop before your eyes. You won't want to miss it!
